What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Italy? Food & wine, right? Obviously the landscape and the monuments have their share but in the end it’s all about food & wine. So THIS is what BennyInItaly talks about: the colors, the senses, and emotions of the flavors of Italy. “Benny” is short for Benedetta (my name) and “In Italy” because I am Italian and I live in Italy. As simple as that.
How did I come up with this idea? At the age of 40, I found myself in Rome and having to start all over again. So I asked myself what I wanted to do with my life. The answer came shouting back at me loud and clear! Eat and drink! Learn about both and then transmit this passion to others. After all I am in Italy!
Due to my dad’s job I had the privilege of growing up in different parts of the world, attend International schools, live and learn about different cultures, and become fluent in English and Spanish. After 18 years of this wonderful life I returned to Italy where I attended college and graduated as Interpreter and Simultaneous translator in Spanish, English and Italian.
After my degree I moved to Umbria. I lived in that beautiful region for over 15 years. There I began appreciating food and wine. I actually fell in love with what this country has to offer in terms of it’s cuisine and it’s world famous nectar! My job back then was to promote the Umbrian food & wine experience to American clients of a prestigious home rental company. This is where my passion started building up.
In 2013 I moved to Rome. I decided to invest on myself and signed up at the world famous Sommelier School of Rome (Fondazione Italiana Sommelier Roma). After nearly two years of amazing lessons I am finally a Sommerlier!
This is what this page is all about. I want to write about food, things that I love, wines that I tasted that left me speechless, pasta that you can easily die for, cheese with the perfect wine that will take you to heaven and back… I want to share my passion for all this with you. I want to become a food and wine specialist. I want to create emotions, memories, unique experiences. This means that I will have to do a whole lot of wine tasting, that I will have to search for those unique spots that serve unique food to take you to eventually, this means trying numerous plates of pasta, platters of prosciutto, dishes of pizza… it’s a tough job but I will do it. I want to study and learn and this is what BennyInItaly is all about, doing all this with love and sharing it with you!
